Inside the Mormon compound, Cullen adjusts to his new life while evading looming danger posed by Mr. Gundersen (The Swede), who has enchanted the Mormons into believing he is a Mormon Bishop. Meanwhile, a power struggle ensues in Cheyenne between Durant and the new territorial governor, John Campbell.

Upon returning to Cheyenne, Cullen once again finds himself in the midst of tragedy when he is reunited with an old acquaintance. Pushed to the brink, a desperate Cullen is forced into making a drastic decision.
