Elam Ferguson

A recently freed and educated slave, whose father was a white plantation owner. Elam seeks to establish a better life working on the transcontinental railroad, eventually ascending to the position of Chief of Railroad Police. Despite an intially adversarial relationship, Elam eventually establishes a close bond with Cullen Bohannon. He catches the heart of Eva and has an adversarial relationship with her eventual husband, Gregory Toole.
